zigzag Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I have just been informed by a parent that their child who was at school on Thursday has Scarlet fever. I have emailed all parents to let them know and told them what the symptoms are, I have also told them to seek medical advice if they think their child may have it and told them that children cannot return to school until being on antibiotics for 24 hours and feeling well again. I am aware that this is a notifiable disease, is there anything else I need to do or should do??? Quote

finleysmaid Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 we have numbers for HPU (in the event of an outbreak....two confirmed cases or more) then you should inform ofsted and the hpu and you may have a number for infection control which should be more local Quote
zigzag Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 I have the number for our county's HPU. So am I right in thinking that I inform them if there are two cases or more?? Quote
Guest Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 My daughter has had it five times so far, once was so severe she was in hospital for five days. The dr told me it's a reportable illness for the health authority not education, so the drs have to report it. I told my daughters school, and they did phone the health authority who told them they didn't have to report it. Not sure if that helps x Quote
finleysmaid Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 we have had to contact the HPU twice ...once for swine flu and once for meningitis they were really helpful...just give them a ring and see what they say...i'm sure the deal is two cases or more but if in doubt give the experts a ring! 1 Quote
sunnyday Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 As Fm said - HPU are very approachable - I would err on the side of caution - they won't mind! :1b Quote
