Uses talk in pretending.. DM - ideas?

I've chosen 'uses talk in pretending that objects stand for something else' for my key child's next step as he is only just beginning to communicate with words and enjoys imaginative play. But now I'm a bit stumped as to what opportunities I could actually offer him to help him achieve this. Does anyone have any ideas?

Does this child not say much at all, just do? I generally say things like gosh I'd love a cup of tea anyone making one when I'm at the sandpit and engage in conversation that way - it's too hot how can I cool it down? What's this you are giving me? Where's the sugar, any cake? After a few times I generally find that they are more forthcoming.
