Panders
It is my understanding that we must all register these days, but I feel sure someone will come along soon with information which proves this. Certainly my LA expects me to be registered regardless of what format I use to store data.
Rea
I have never been given advice or even a suggestion from anyone that we must register.
Steve
It doesn't sound like you do have to notify fimbo if all you're keeping is a photo collection with no data attached. However, they're pretty approachable if you phone and let them know what you're keeping, and if you do decide it's a good idea it's a pretty simple process and only costs around £30 I think, from memory. fimbo
we have a checklist from out LA and its one of the boxes that need ticking ' Are you aware that you may need to be registered as a data controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office?' SueJ
I am registered with Information Commissioners Office (£35.00 per year) as it is not only the children's records but also the staff records that you have to think about. I run my payroll from the computer, keep staff training records on the computer plus contact information etc. I also have some information held on the computer about the children to process funding and fee calcs I feel that £35 per annum is a small price to pay to ensure that I am covered rather than face a hefty fine. This is from the FAQ section of the website "Q: How do I know whether the Data Protection Act applies to my business/organisation? The Act will usually apply unless you are an individual holding personal information for your own domestic use, eg an address book."
