Guest Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Hi, I am planning the topic 'Australia' to do with my Reception class in the Summer term. As part of this, we will be doing an assembly for parents and I would love to find a good children's song either about, or from, Australia. I've been trawling the internet for ages but can't seem to find any! If anyone has any good suggestions i'd love to hear from you! Thanks
sunnyday Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Just two fairly obvious ones.... Waltzing Matilda and Kookubara Sits in the Old Gum Tree - not sure about my spelling there!

These are great - thanks! They are obvious but I hadn't thought of them! Just found some lovely clips of children singing Kookubara - if i'm feeling brave we may even try it as a round...
HoneyPancakes Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 And it's always better if you sing ' Kookaburra sits on electric wire, jumping up and down with his pants on fire!' H
HoneyPancakes Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Give me a home amongst the gum trees, With lots of plum trees, A sheep or two and a kangaroo, A clothes line out the back, verandah out the front, And an old rocking chair. H

I agree that Don Spencer has some wonderful works, but I wouldn't recommend this particular song which uses 'Eyre's Rock' and 'Didgeridoo' which might be better replaced by 'Uluru' and 'Ydaki' (spelling?).
