currycraver Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 As the evenings draw in I am beginning to think more about Chritmas. I have usually found some bargains to give thhe children at Christmas. I was wondering if people were willing to share their ideas about what they give their nursery children and any good sites as I don't seem to be able to find anything I like that is affordable Thanks in anticipation.

HoneyPancakes Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I too have ordered books from the book people for all my minded children, but my boys' nursery teacher gave them Kalidiscopes and they were great - still around several years later and used as spyglasses etc. Don't know where they came from but they were really good.
Cait Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 er mps - are those two lists the same? We use Scholastic book club and get books when they have them on offer. When parents buy books from the scheme we get vouchers to use against our purchases, my 30 books have cost us nothing! They're getting 'Room on a Broom' this year. We also do a 'secret santa' amongst the parents with a spending limit of £5. We pull names out of a hat and each family buy one present which they bring in before the end of term for our Christmas party. This ensures that we have a lovely variety of shapes, sizes and wraps under the Christmas Tree!
Guest Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 yep we get our from the Book People too; books work out at around £1 each - perfect!! Like the idea of kaliedescopes though!!
mps09 Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 er mps - are those two lists the same? Oh well spotted - just testing to see who was awake.... The second set they have (as well as loads of other books, of course!) is:- You're All My Favourites by Sam McBratney We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen & Helen Oxenbury Can't You Sleep, Little Bear? by Martin Waddell Snow Bears by Martin Waddell & Sarah Fox-Davies A Friend for Little Bear by Harry Horse The Bravest Ever Bear by Allan Ahlberg & Paul Howard Be Gentle! A Story About Playing Nicely by Virginia Miller You Can Do It, Sam by Amy Hest & Anita Jeram Hello, Goodbye by David Lloyd & Louise Voce Where's My Teddy? by Jez Alborough The benefit of a selection like this is that you can choose who to give each book to, so 'We're going on a bear hunt' would be given to a child who is unlikely to have many books at home and therefore hopefully won't be given a book that they already have
redjayne Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 A Book People fan here too - got all of mine for 95 children for a pound each or less with thier bargain offers
WChurchill Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 We have decided to buy something for the class this year, something we know they would love to play with!!
currycraver Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 Thank you all for your input. I will look at the book people. have not thought about using my scholastic tokens. I will get shopping tomorrow.
CarlyWarly Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 I decided last year that the small £1 presents or so were not very appreciatedby the children and so decided that I would buy a group pressie for everyone to share at my setting!!! I wrap it up and present it the last weeek of term!! They really loved it last year, its much more beneficial to everyone! I have just purchased the whole Pintoy Hospital Set for this year! £180 worth of toys for £100 on Ebay boxed and a total bargain!! Cant wait.
