eyfs1966
We have a very small indoor square climbing frame, and children turned this into a pirate ship by erecting a long cardboard tube mast and decorating with "flags" that they made, It was great! WChurchill
Any chance you are in North Yorkshire? We have every year a pirate day where kids and teachers come to school dressed up. We have a treasure chest with treasure ie rings (hoola hoops), golden nuggets (cereal), gold coins (chocolate coins), silver bars (biscuits wrapped in foil) and the captain falls asleep and the treasure gets stolen. We go around the school looking for it, all staff up for it, we find the treasure in classrooms. We take a plank and make people walk it if they won't give treasure back! We take swords made of paper. Great fun, causes riot as children jump on the chairs as their class is searched. We do it as a sponsored event. Before this we make jewellery, spray gold and silver pasta. Make ship out of large bicks ec......

finleysmaid
if you have good links with local schools/pre-schools why not ring them and ask to borrow! we do this often - saves money and forges links! I have never refused an offer yet!
SueFinanceManager
We made boats out of plastic trays (the sort convenience food comes in) and called one captain blacks boat and one captain blues and then put cargo on (buttons, plastic blocks etc) to see which would sink in the water table first, if you can narrate it with a story of the captains rivalry to be the best and have the best ship then that makes it more interesting. Good link in with science and counting/maths Also try searching the forum (use the search forum posts - turquoise sausages shape top right hand corner of the screen) and you will get quite a few results Good luck and have fun
