Upsy Daisy Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 A five-year old child in my care will shortly be going into hospital for ear surgery. I'v had a look on Amazon for books which might help to introduce the subject, particularly the idea of going to sleep while they do it but I couldn't see one which clearly fitted the bill. Has anyone found a book which is particularly good?
vickymck Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Cant think of any of the top of my head but I am doing an inclusion course at the mo and there are soe books on this subject there so I will get back to you on Monday when I have noted the titles etc.
Upsy Daisy Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 Thank you Vicky. That's very kind of you.
Panders Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 What about contacting the hospital play specialist on the children's ward - maybe they could suggest something
Upsy Daisy Posted March 21, 2010 Author Posted March 21, 2010 Thanks Panders. I did that and they said they would post a leaflets but couldn't suggest any books.
mundia Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Tony Ross ' I don't want to go to hospital' only one that leaps into my head just now
HappyMaz Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Is there an Usborne rep in your area Upsy Daisy? They do a 'first experiences' range of books and I'm pretty sure one of them must be about going to hospital. Not sure how appropriate they'll be for a big grown up five year old though! Maz
vickymck Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 sorry Upsy Daisy, I haven;t been able to attend the training or get the book info cos my daughter had tummy ache this morning, although has made a remarkable recovery now !- maybe your local PLA have similar resources
HappyMaz Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 We have The Book People in at the moment - there is an Oxford Reading Tree young readers set. One of which is about going into hospital. Might be worth a look at their website, Upsy Daisy? Maz
Upsy Daisy Posted March 22, 2010 Author Posted March 22, 2010 Thank you Maz. Will have a look at their website. I'll have to be quick - the op's next Wednesday!
