Guest Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I know you have to have at least 50% of the staff in a setting qualified, does level 2 count as qualified or does it have to be level 3 and above to comply with Ofsted and the EYFS
SueJ Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Level 2 counts as qualified for general staff ratios but not for person in charge (minimum level 3) - not 100% sure about deputy but I think they must also be minimum level 3.

Thank you, I thought level 2 did count and i have just found it in the EYFS, the reason for my asking is we need more staff and I didnt want to employ a level 2 and be out of balance with less than half the staff unqalified.
Cait Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Do you reckon we can count a 17 year old in adult ratios? She's really keen to volunteer and it would mean I could take a couple more children off our waiting list!
Inge Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 we have included 17yr old in our staff ratios.. so long as they are regular and long term , Ofsted came while we were doing this and they were happy with it.. she was an unpaid apprentice so in regularly.. and was doing some training.. don't know if this had a bearing on it with Ofsted.. Guest Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I think 17 year olds have to be students on a long term placement to be counted in ratio's or if the manager feels they are competent enough. Exact wording is in the EYFS Standards, not at work yet so can't access it, definitely in there though!
HappyMaz Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Exact wording is in the EYFS Standards, not at work yet so can't access it, definitely in there though! Page 32 of the Statutory Framework says: Staff/volunteers/students under the age of 17 cannot count towards the ratio and should be supervised at all times. Individuals aged 17 and over who are on long-term placements may be included in the ratios if the provider is satisfied they are competent and responsible. Maz
