thumperrabbit
What boundaries do you have, if any, with an voluntary NVQ student? For example, do you let them have access to personal files, write in children's learning journeys, talk to parents about what their children are doing? Or because of confidentiality do you feel that these things need to be done by keyworker/permanent staff? Do you have a different induction for students against a permanent staff member? Many thanks
wellerkaren
We do let the students write observations and if they need to write in the learning journals or produce one themselves we do ask the student to gain permission from the parent and or carer. We get all students to sign all the policies and procedures of the setting as they are also expected to follow these.
Panders
if the student is staying for a term or more they undergo the same induction as anyone else would. i wouldn't make them a key worker but they would assist key workers to keep records. They may do observatons but the Key Workers talk to the parents and a student may sit in if the parent agrees. if they need to make a child study for their course, they may do so, but need to talk to the parent and get specific written authority from them to do the observations and provide copies for the parent. if we have student on work experience for a week or so they sign a shortened version of the induction policies, Health & Safety for example, safeguarding, confidentiality and i make them aware that there are soooooooo many more! Many thanks ours did not do the journeys, talk to parents or have access to confidential files. if they needed to do something for their course which needed this info they had to ask their mentor in the setting, and specific parental permission for case studies, usual obs were covered by our own policy. we had one member of staff allocated to be the students point of contact to help and mentor them . Induction was same as all staff, and a confidentiality statement ( policy) signed by them.. we also ensured that they were never alone with a child and did not do the personal care unsupervised..
