Today was 'Bring your Dad to playgroup' day. All the staff were apprehensive as this was completely new ground for us, but we needn't have worried. Eight dads came this morning including one who used to attend the group. They made muffin pizzas, there was some very competitive junk modelling and lots of active outdoor play. Three dads stayed for lunch and one really didn't want to go to work. 'Could we write a note for his boss?'

One dad stayed for the whole day and is considering coming in as a volunteer even when his son has gone to school. After lunch three more arrived, another one who used to attend the group. more pizzas, junk modelling, painting and dressing up. One dad looked very fetching after his little one dressed him up in a kimono, ( I got a photo) :o

We all thoroughly enjoyed the day and it was brilliant for the boys to have some male attention at playgroup. One dad rediscovered his ability to draw and the playhouse is decorated with his pictures.

All in all it has been a fantastic day and hopefully we will repeat it, maybe once a term.

What a fantastic day, Mary!

We went to Legoland yesterday to celebrate Father's Day and of the nine families that came, there were four dads. They all had a whale of a time, and it was lovely to spend time with our children and their families in such a fun packed, relaxed day.

I can only say that we are blessed with the families we get to work with: such hands-on dads whose love for their children shines through in all they do!

Quite a re-affirming day, all in all!

But going back to your day Mary, this really illustrates how much the children get when their parents - and especially their dads - involve themselves in their education. With such powerful results, do you think you'll make it an annual event?

Maz - we would definitely like to make it an annual event or maybe termly. i t was lovely to spend time talking to the dads and finding out what they thought about the playgroup and how it was helping their child. Most of them we had met when they brought their children to playgroup so it was good to see them relating to their children during play.

Alison - it's half an english muffin spread with tomato passata and then topped with ham and cheese. Put it in the oven to heat through and bob's your uncle.

Congratulations Mary. Sounds like everyone enjoyed and benefitted from the day. Hopefully an experience that will live on in the memories of all. Well done!

Sounds like you had a fab day. On Friday we had Father's Day breakfast. Our cook came in early and cooked bacon and we offered dad's a breakfast of bacon rolls, croissants, toast, juice and smoothies. A couple of dads had said they would stay when they dropped off (we even had dads who dont normally drop off doing so), but once they smelled the bacon we had a lot of dads staying and like you some reluctant to go to work!! It really was lovely.

We had a Mother's Day tea which wasnt really well attended so next year we'll be having Mother's day breakfast too!!!
