OK the challenge has been set, me and my sister-in-law have been told that we will not be able to give up drink for the month of Feb. :o

So here goes - as of midnight tonight, not a drop of alcholol shall pass my lips xD (i'll open wide and pour it straight down my throat instead - thereby missing the lips - NOT REALLY :(:( )

We're going away to Brugge for three days this month as well - god its going to be hard - Wish me luck. :( I know with all your virtual help I can do it  xD

Good luck! We have been on a no drinking challenge since 5th Jan but haven't managed a complete tee-total time! We had one evening with family where we drank as we would do normally, then there have been 3 other evenings when I have had a little wine. Ours ends on the 5th Feb which is hubby's birthday so not much longer to go. However, most of the time I haven't been too bothered so I definitely won't be going back to drinking the same amount that I was. :o

Have you seen my recent post, I had to go teetotal in Jaunuary, lots of alternative drink ideas HERE

Not sure if I've mentioned it in the other post but I've found a really good non alcoholic wine, it's from Asda called FRE, Chardonnay. I do a bottle a night. :oxD

The other night after I'd finished a bottle I thought oh, I'll try some 'Kaliber' lager, then thought oh no, mustn't mix my drinks (doh) :(:(:(

Good luck, what happens if you lose you're challenge?

Thanks peggy, I shall look for that wine.

No consquences if I don't complete the challenge - its just a matter of pride!!! and the ability to say I CAN DO IT :o

It's not easy, I do actually miss the relaxing (or should I say 'merry') effect of alcohol rather than the taste. :o

Be strong, or you'll end up with a case of 'Pride before a (drunken) fall' xD

As an infrequent drinker I would find it easy to do the challenge, BrendaS

However, if you asked me to give up chocolate that might be a different matter! :o

Good luck - I'm sure you'll do it!

I'm with you HappyMaz, although twice this afternoon Mike has asked me if I'd like some of his fruit and nut bar and I've not been interested - oooer!

Perhaps I'm going down with something!

Marmite crisps are my favourite!

Good luck Brenda! I am on day 27 of being alcohol free-gave up for a month just after New Year. Can't make my mind up whether to be 4 weeks or a calendar month. 4 weeks would be Monday, but not a good idea to be drinking for the first time and then going into work the next day!! Second option will be Thursday, so I could wait til the weekend.

I have to say I haven't missed it as much as I thought I would but we haven't been out at all this month because of various reasons-I think I would have liked a drink if we had been socialising.

Would you need to drink so much that it affected you the next day? Why undo all the good you've done giving your liver a rest!? Have just a glass of wine and really enjoy it. :o

No Cait, I wouldn't need to drink so much that it affected me the next day. I just don't know how even one might be after not drinking for so long.

Well I can go months between drinks - a glass of wine on my birthday in May, then another for my Son in June, then nothing till Christmas, then a glass or two. I'm not really fussed about it I suppose.

Very sensible, Linda - one of the reasons I drink so infrequently is that it goes straight to my head! I'm sure if I had alcohol regularly I'd soon get over it (I wasn't always so sober!). :o

  • 1 month later...

Well I am very pleased to say that I have done it :( I have not drank a drop of alcohol for the whole month of feb.

We went away to Brugge for a few days over half term and I didn't drink. xD (very pleased with myself).

Have I lost any weight? NO - instead I have put some on, however, that could be due to the fact that I have had a bad back for three weeks resulting in a slipped disc and sciatic for last week and have been off work and not been able to do anything. I also haven't been running for the past three weeks due to back problems. I'm going back to work tomoz for 2 hours a day.

I have now got a lovely bottle of white chilling in the fridge ready for tea tonight, I might even be tempted to drink it all :o well at least mixed with paracetamol I might get a good nights sleep (which I haven't had for two week, due to back).

I never want to drink alco free lager again in my life!!!!!!

Go on give it a go - you can all do it if you try :(

Well done BrendaS on your months abstinence. :(

Slipped a disc myself quite a few years ago, so empathise there, hope the sciatica eases soon, just remember to bend those knees, don't twist torso and careful if lifting. :o

Not sure wine and paracetamol mixed is a good idea!!

Enjoy your chilled wine, (in moderation though eh xD )

Well done and hope your back improves soon.

Be careful when you return to work not to put too much stress on your back, it's very easy when you feel a lot better to forget that your body is still healing.

Take care and enjoy the wine.
