Beau
Would you like a chance to win a wonderful Fsf mug or badge? Well, it might be your lucky month! This is the first of our new monthly competitions where you will have the opportunity of winning a mug (1st prize) or a badge (Runners up prize). So get your creative heads in gear, because you’re going to need them this month. We all know the Christmas song, Away in a Manger. However, we would like you to come up with your own lyrics to the tune for our December competition. The content can be anything of your choosing as long as it can be sung to the tune! As a very bad example (please forgive me but I have literally made this up in the last 30 minutes!!) Calling all members to join in the fun, Can you come up with lyrics, do you know a good pun? We’re asking you nicely to write it all down, This is your chance to really go to town. The subject is your choice, it can be anything, From working in childcare to frantic shopping, Your lyrics can be heartfelt, the sentiment plain, You can make it quite funny or completely insane. Once it is written post your entries right here, For your last chance to win for the rest of the year, So get your brain working, for a fine mug awaits, Be the envy of all of your forum mates! Rules: 1. Only one entry per member is allowed 2. Moderators can join in with the fun and post lyrics but are not eligible to win 3. Closing date for entries will be Monday 15th December 4. If there are lots of entries the Moderators/Admin team will pick a short list of entries after this date 5. A poll will be posted where members will be able to vote for their favourite entries (from those short listed if necessary) 6. The winner will be the person receiving the most votes on the poll when it closes (and will win a mug - yay!), with the person receiving the second most votes being awarded the runners up prize of a badge 7. Please keep it clean/inoffensive and only post lyrics you have written yourselves 8. Any complaints can be sent to Steve and any praise to me! 9. The rules may change at any time as or when I think of something I haven’t already covered
Guest
Love rules 8 & 9 I think you've set a good standard to follow with your verse Beau, well done. Good 'festive' luck to all entrants, I shall get my thinking cap on, and just know I will most probably be singing the 'Away in the Manger' tune, with various lyrics, in my sleep. Peggy Note to self; place dictaphone on bedside cabinet for those 'twilight', mind in overdrive, keep you awake moments, so I can record my creative thoughts before I forget them, come morning time. purplewednesday1
Away in a manger – the owners carol Away in my nursery, it’s been a bad day The student phoned in sick and it’s invoices today I’ve sat in my office, the phone it rings on The children are practising lots of Christmas song (s) My manager is stressing, not enough staff at work Too many children and a flu bug won’t shirk We’ve had somebody move away to work in the snow The rest of us wonder if we all should go However ... At Nursery it’s Christmas and glitter fest’s here Despite all our problems it’s a great time of year The excitement of the children and the efforts of staff Making baubles and cards with some tinsel and stuff We love it at Nursery wouldn’t miss it at all The children can’t wait for Santa to call We sing all the songs and make the cards for the mums We create the anticipation for when the big day comes! Be near me my manager I want you to stay Close by me forever and help me I pray Bless all the dear children in our tender care And fit them for big school who knows wherever where! NOT PART OF THE SONG... This is the real song of a real owner and all the things th have been mentioned really have happened today!

Lorna
Right- Hears my attempt at the challenge.... Another year has past, And what changes we have made. With the new EYFS, Is it here to stay? We are all tired practitioners, With one thing to say. Please stop changing things, We like it this way. The nativity play’s finished, The parents applaud. The crafts have been garnished, With glitter galore. The children are tired, So hard have they worked. In playing and learning, New skills they’ll take far. We’re all ready for the holidays, To spend with loved ones. And come back in the New Year, To have lots of fun.
Rea
Here's my effort.... Away for the new year At Burnham on sea Loads of friends will be with us What a lark it will be. We went there too last year And had lots of fun Got silly while drinking And now the troubles begun I spied an open window And played a daft prank At the time it was funny But now I want the time back. I found out last week That plans are afoot To get me back royally I could end bald as a coot. The avenger is known As a prankster of fame I am nervously waiting But theres just me to blame. So drink and be merry As you see in‘09 And spare a thought for poor Rea ‘Cos its big pay back time.

Rea
Just desserts and with a cherry on the top, but I knew what I was doing so I must take it like a man. Dont know Sue, I do lots of silly things. In a nutshell... I put a chicken carcass on someones car and woke in the morning to a scene from Alfred Hitchcock. The car was left to travel home covered in grease and bits of chicken. In my defence Rum got the better of me and it was all I could do that wouldnt impact on his daughter and wife sleeping in the caravan too. I have a plan for this year too. A massive roll of cling film to wrap his car in. It'll keep the birds off! PS Yes to meeting up again
