Actually I think it’s number of reports and each report may contain more than one case 😳: “If there are multiple reported cases at a setting at one time, a notification can include more than one confirmed case. This means that the number of notifications received does not necessarily correlate with the number of confirmed cases in a setting.”

Ah yes sorry I can see it says that now. The trend is concerning I thought; huge increase from all previous figures.

I know this has been posted about before but I noticed there's an update published today. Not sure if this is the number of settings or individual cases but it's pretty worrying! Definitely not IMHO. Does it really need to be face to face? Zoom is a good alternative, with emailing any documents beforehand perhaps? We aren't doing any face to face meetings at the moment.

Thanks. I’ve had parents inside one at a time but only when there are no more than a couple Of children in (Ie very early or late) and they have to wear a mask. Ah yes if it’s for an ehcp then that makes sense. Routine stuff I’m not keen though when they could have clinic sessions instead.

Thank you. Our outdoor area is being used pretty much constantly at the moment - we did think about it for visitors but it would mean other children couldn’t then use it as salts etc would need a quiet space and not have others ‘interfering’ if you know what I mean! I’ll give it some more thought anyway.

Hi, Is anyone allowing external visitors? I have been saying no (we don't have a separate room and we are not allowing parents inside, even for new starters). The guidance (updated today but I don't think this section has been updated) says: External professionals In instances where settings need to use other essential professionals such as social workers, speech and language therapists or counsellors, or other professionals to support delivery of a child’s EHC plan, settings should assess whether the professionals need to attend in person or can do so virtually. If they need to attend in person, they should: follow guidance relevant to the setting keep the number of attendances to a minimum wash hands frequently where possible to do so, maintain social distancing be informed about the system of controls in settings If anyone has come inside (e.g. prospective parents after hours) I have insisted on a mask. But a speech therapist for example isn't going to wear a mask presumably. Thanks, A

we get them to wash their hands when they come in (supervised by an adult) and don't use sanitiser on them, although I've seen many parents put it on their children

I’ll contact my accountant to find out exactly what happens. I assume we could claim the ssp Amount regardless of what we pay? My problem is still having to pay to cover the member of staff.

I thought you could get SSP even if non symptomatic but maybe that’s stopped now; I will try and find the info. That’s interesting from your daughters. i thought the £500 was anywhere but who knows?!! “You could get SSP if you’re self-isolating because: you or someone you live with has coronavirus symptoms or has tested positive for coronavirus you’ve been notified by the NHS or public health authorities that you’ve been in contact with someone with coronavirus someone in your ‘support bubble’ (or your ‘extended household’ if you live in Scotland or Wales) has coronavirus symptoms or has tested positive for coronavirus you’ve been advised by a doctor or healthcare professional to self-isolate before going into hospital for surgery” this is from gov.uk

Thanks very much, Lynne. I should have decided about all this before term started but haven’t managed it!! I saw something on the news about people on low incomes maybe getting £500 if they have to self isolate so that would cover the ones not getting ssp if it happens. I’m thinking about charging reduced fees as a retainer kind of thing. I don’t know; I go round in circles. I couldn’t afford to pay staff when I have to get cover especially like you say, if it’s a few of them. But maybe if that was the case we would have to close anyway? Depends if it’s a confirmed case rather than symptoms pending a test result I suppose. It’s all doing my head in tbh.

Hello everyone If parents pay, are you still charging fees if their household is self isolating? I didn’t for that few weeks before lockdown started but need to decide what to do now. If a member of staff has to self isolate due to own symptoms or household symptoms, are you just paying SSP? This hasn’t arisen yet in my setting. Thank you

I have one prospective parent who won't do a bank transfer of fees ('I don't do online banking') and won't wear a mask to come in to use the chip and pin machine. I'm not taking cash so the child won't be starting until she backs down or goes into the bank and does it (they would presumably ask her to wear a mask?) etc. There is not an exemption; she just refuses to wear one.

OMG poor you - all sounds very stressful! We had lots of crying for the first hour and even that was draining, but we are in our own space at least. Hope things improve for you.

I haven’t seen it and didn’t even know until I saw the posts on here. Apart from anything else, surely they should actively send it to early years settings? Ofsted have all our details 🙄
