mundia Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 I hate Christmas! But in an attempt to get all festive, I buy the chestnuts to roast (love chestnuts), and whilst piercing them ready for cooking, I manage to stab myself in the wrist with a very sharp knife. BAh humbug, now all Ive managed to do is remind myself that I shouldn't have bothered! Quote
Marion Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 hope wrist is ok and just remember it will soon be over Quote
JacquieL Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Oh mundia I do hope you are OK. Was it very bad? Mmm I love chestnuts too but perhaps without the blood Quote
Sue R Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Sounds like something I'd do!! Note to self : Do not, repeat NOT, prepare chestnuts self - give to A.N. Other!!!!! Sue Quote
Guest Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Poor Mundia, you do make me laugh I hope your wrist is OK (you did avoid any blood vesels, I hope!) I don't mind Christmas per se but I hate the way it's become so commercialised. All my kids are interested in is what presents they're getting and how much fancy food they can eat! I refuse to put my tree up until a few days before Christmas and I always take it down before the new year I guess that makes me a bit bah humbug-ish too PS got any spare chestnuts??? Quote
Guest Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Poor Mundia, hope the wrist is ok. I used to hate Christmas, especially as the inlaws didn't get on and there were always arguments. This year, actually looking forward to it, husband, myself, two grown-up sons and one girlfriend. Hope yours turns out ok. Quote
Guest Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 I too hope the wrist is okay. But the very thought of chestnuts at Christmas makes me laugh!!!! My mum, under supervison needless to say, last year placed a whole bag of chestnuts into her oven!! But what did she forget? To prick them!!!! Needless to say the noise and following hissing, splating and exploding chestnuts all over her new kitchen serve as a timely reminder! No chestnuts this year!!!! Quote
Susan Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Ouch!! Hope you are ok, although presumable you'd be at A&E and not posting here if you werent! The last chestnuts I bought were left forgotten in the kitchen until well after the New Year but as I didnt know you needed to prick them, perhaps that was just as well? Quote
mundia Posted December 16, 2006 Author Posted December 16, 2006 a couple of steri strips and all seems well-ish now. All I can say is its a good job we don't have carpets. And I get out of doing the washing up for a while! Quote
mundia Posted December 18, 2006 Author Posted December 18, 2006 Mmm I love chestnuts too but perhaps without the blood Noone will notice now that Ive added the cranberries and red wine... Quote
Sue R Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 remind me not to accept an invitation to dinner, then mundia............. Quote
JacquieL Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Actually that sounds rather yummy Mundia- if you have added those items. What is it you are making? Quote
mundia Posted December 18, 2006 Author Posted December 18, 2006 Christmas dinner, Jacquie.. I have a sort of recipe but I kind of make it up as I go along now (veggie you see) Quote
JacquieL Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Sounds good. Part of my family used to be vegetarian and I used to do cashew nut roast as an alternative for them on Christmas day. It is in a book by Sarah Green, at least I think it is her. We like it so much we have it ocasionally instead of a sunday roast. Quote
Sue R Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Oh, yes! Her recipes are brilliant! We have veggie meals a couple of times a week as my effort at being healthier....... Sue Quote
JacquieL Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 We have one once a week for the same reason- we have fish twice- difficult with my Oh who doesn't think he's eaten unless he has meat and 2 veg. Still his cholesterol was a bit high so for a month I got hin to eat what i thought he should be eating- guess what ? It is really fine now. Mind you he celebrated with a large packet of crisps. Quote
Sue R Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Oops! My husband's blood pressure is now drug controlled, to our great chagrin...... but we still eat healthily! His Cholestrol is now becoming manageable - I wonder why Sue Quote
Rea Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Bah Humbug indeed!!! The selloptape cant remember where its own end is. The rescued cat is in need of the same again. If she keeps taking baubels off my tree she's gonna get it! She sharpens her claws on the trunk and bites the branches, I wonder why it's started to drop it's needles? I printed a certificate for mom and dads present and the darn cat sat on it, now it reads...membership gives you many benefits: Free paw prints! Free entry for upto 6 paw prints Free members magazine which includes bloody paw prints. She is now in the garden Merry Christmas everyone, where's the beer? Quote
hali Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 oh bless rea know what you mean about the baubles they love them dont they Quote
Rea Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 On a lighter note 'she' is now curled up on my bed looking all cute and cuddley. I received a gift in the post this morning which is fab (thank you Sue ) And, wait for it...housework is done (except my room where I've been putting everything without a home of its own ) Quote
Susan Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Your cat sounds like my cat, rea! And your bedroom!! Anyone know a good quick recipe for a Christmas cake of some description? Unfortunately, family events have rather got in the way of my Christmas preparations but I really dont want to buy one. I have a stollen tin hiding in a cupboard somewhere but no recipe? Quote
Sue R Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Well, with every thing that will physically cross, I made our Dundee cake on Sunday!!!!! I hope it will be OK - but then my cooking is much like Wendy Craig's - anyone remember 'Butterflies' ? She was a ria, too.... not that I'm making accusations, Rea!!! Sue Quote
mundia Posted December 19, 2006 Author Posted December 19, 2006 I had to do the Christmas parties for reception today. One of my colleagues bought this hat.. I wonder why? Quote
JacquieL Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Oh fantastic Mundia I hope that you wore it all day. Quote
Rea Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Sue, the accusation of Ria was made many years ago by my friend, another Sue as it happens. My culinery skills are legend. Tonight (and I still havent owned up to hubby) the lads wanted crumpets with cheese on. I'd scrubbed every surface today so I put greaseproof paper on the baking tray to catch the cheese as it toasted. Did anyone expect it would catch fire?? Who knew that would happen?? They were edible if they tore the edges off. Small bits of ash are still to be found in my clean kitchen. Quote
