zigzag
We do. She has been with us for 20 plus years. It’s my greatest wish that she would get her level two but she won’t.
ChinWag
Thank you, I was unsure whether we could still employ unqualified staff, I thought the EYFS said that they had to be level 2, I have someone asking for work who seems to be very experienced but not qualified..... zigzag
My staff member is counted in ratios when myself and deputy are also working but it’s a pain in the neck not being able to have her counted when either myself or deputy are away. louby loo
We've just taken on a non qualified with lots of experience. I'd like her to take a qualification, but they'll only do it if fully funded. I will be honest I'm not actually looking into it (shock horror) I feel if they want it fully funded they can do the research for it! Luckily for us as we have 6 qualified so works ok for now.
ChinWag
Thank you for the replies - I didn’t realise about the ratios - so does this mean when you are working alongside them? Where does this information come from please?
zigzag
Myself and deputy are level 3 so if one of us is away the unqualified cannot be the other person. In group settings, the manager must hold at least a full and relevant28 level 329 qualification and at least half of all other staff must hold at least a full and relevant level 2 qualification. The manager should have at least two years’ experience of working in an early years setting, or have at least two years’ other suitable experience. The provider must ensure there is a named deputy who, in their judgement, is capable and qualified to take charge in the manager’s absence. mundia
The EYFS qualified ratio requirement states In group settings, the manager must hold at least a full and relevant level 3 qualification and at least half of all other staff must hold at least a full and relevant level 2 qualification Nothing about not employing unqualified staff nor about them not being counted in ratio. Stargrower
Yes we have three unqualified staff members but are a (relatively) large setting so don't need to worry about whether or not we can count them in ratios - they are always.
