hailey_Markley
Hi all, My school is considering a new digital app for recording children's learning (across the whole school) called See Saw. As the Early Years Leader I have been asked to find out whether we ought to change from using tapestry in the reception classes and join the rest of the school on See saw. I have trawled the internet trying to identify the pros and cons of see saw.. and have yet to come across anything that suggests we should remain with tapestry. Just wondered if anyone has had experience of this in the early years classes or whether its more suitable to KS1 and 2...thanks all!!
Cait
Hi, and welcome to the forum, congratulations on your first post. I've not come across see-saw before, and I suspect that's also the reason that you've not had any replies up until now. Is there any way that you could do both for this last few weeks, so you could get a feel for it? Certainly Tapestry would work up the key stage, so maybe you could also ask them to trial tapestry for a few weeks too! (Fair do's!)
Aunt Sally
I had a little look at it and it seems to be aimed at older students. Its says its suitable for 5 upwards so I would say its aimed more from Year1 upwards. The things that would put me off are that it is free and that it is American. MagicStar
In situations like this it is best to start with a list of requirements; i.e. what is it you want the system to do? Look at 'must have' and 'should have' features and anything else is just 'nice to haves'. As the rest of the school is using see saw, my guess is that may sway which way you, or indeed the rest of the school go. The points made above about it being free and American would be possible cause for concern for me too. If it's 'free' how is the software developer making money? Which begs the question, will you receive technical support, security updates etc and will they be around for long?!
