Froglet Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Hello, I have been a governor for about 4 years - as a teacher governor and then co-opted. We heard this week that our chair of governors is resigning from the role as she is moving a long way away! I am contemplating putting my name forward for the role but am wary of whether I could manage the time commitment or whether it would work for me to be chair of governors given that I'm a teacher (I work full time). Our existing chair was in school a lot - but she worked part-time from home - and seemed to do a huge amount of research etc. Do any of you have a role as chair of governors/know someone who does it and could give me an honest opinion of the role/responsibility etc? Any input gratefully received! Quote
lsp Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Just a quick thought. Are you a teacher at the same school? If so is would that be considered a conflict of interests, is it allowed? I have served as a governor so am aware of the amount of time etc needed and how much the chair's role involved. Not sure that I would consider with a full time job but that's just thinking around my circumstances at this moment. Good luck! Quote
Froglet Posted March 17, 2016 Author Posted March 17, 2016 Thanks for replying lsp. I was teacher at that school but am not working there any longer but am still a co-opted governor. So I don't have the conflict of interests. I think the chair has to be doing the head teacher's performance management which he may find weird and I certainly would! My concern at the moment is that I don't think there is anyone else at the moment who could/would do the role and we are due Ofsted any day! Quote
catma Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Talk to your clerk as they will be able to give you an idea.
