RedDragon
Has anybody ever set one up?I was thinking of setting up a parent forum to meet once a month to discuss any ideas, problems etc.
Rea
I wrote my answer then decided I was being really negative so deleted it Try it, ask your parents in a questionnaire if they'd be interested in meeting to discuss concerns, share ideas and plan future events. Take it from there and good luck :1b :1b
LKeyteach
I have a group of parents who meet each half term. Have never had formal agenda. They seem to be keen on fundraising so this is usually the main bulk of meeting. But they have had helpful suggestions and been a way of cascading information down to other parents. They gave also helped me by engaging with some of the parents who won't talk to me because they think I am a scary teacher monster. Can be a bit scary and I worry they will throw something at me that I won't like but they haven't yet. I asked parents if they would like to volunteer but I individually ask some.

Fredbear
Hi no we haven't a parent/ carers forum at our provision. However we are managed by a committee of parents which alongside the staff team engage with our parents daily. We also put on our monthly newsletter about any suggestions mainly fundraising ideas though. Another thing we do is give out a questionnaire following our home visits, this is also a useful tool in gauging whether what we do is beneficial to parents/carers. It also helps us to evaluate that our processes are appropriate.
chez29
I put out questionnaires and recently had a first meeting of the parents forum. The parents forum was totally a parents idea and they led with it sending out letters and getting them on board. We had 10 parents attend in total. thumperrabbit
Red Dragon what kind of setting are you? We are a committee run group so for me that's the area me as manager and my parents use as 'parent forum' I understand the parent forum if you are a school or day nursery you would need to set this up separately. I attended a forum at my children's school - i was quite 'in the know' with school anyway as I volunteer there, but the questions parents came up with were usually answered easily.
