Wonderstuff16
Our chair of our committee who had an enhanced CRB when she became chair of our playgroup is stepping down as chair and joining us as staff. Does anyone know if I need to do another enhanced DBS check or can I use her current one which is only a year old?
Thumper
Hello We had the same happen last yr. chair became relief staff member. I phoned the company who does our DBS checks and they said I did not need to do another.
Rea
I had an old type CRB in around 2000 to be playleader. Since then I've been committee member and chair and recently staff, still the same CRB At our next AGM I'll hopefully not be needed as staff in which case I'll be chair again.
narnia
so, they don't need renewing?
finleysmaid
i would email your dbs company and then keep their email response for proof ...we have also had this situation but as there had been a small gap in between we redid the checks
Inge
do check with your company who provides them... I can remember in the past that you were 'supposed' to get a new one if you changed role from volunteer to paid member of staff.. as you pay for one but not the other... otherwise we would all employ a volunteer for a week before they became full time staff on same dbs check.. woodlands1997
If you change from volunteer to staff you do have to have a new one as I have had this recently, not sure with regards to committee etc. This was with capita, best to check with company as like said by Inge otherwise could class as volunteer then change to save pennies! Rea
I'd check with Ofsted rather than a company who will make money from you!
woodlands1997
Ours is on domestic premises so ofsted and capita and both said the same unfortunately :-( Ridiculous though!!!
Wonderstuff16
Thank you so much, I will check with TMG.
lynned55
I checked with Ofsted over a volunteer who then became a staff member (and also was a registered childminder) Ofsteds answer was to tell me to beware of people who 'job hopped' (or words to that effect) and only stayed in a job for a short period of time.# I think they missed the point but I re did her anyway. This was prior to DBS but a while back we did get warnings that they would prosecute anyone who was paying for a volunteer when the role was actually staff. They said they had prosecuted 3 groups for committing fraud. So do be careful- my advice would be to do another one.
thumperrabbit
3 of my ladies (including myself) were committee and then moved to being paid staff. When I did my SPI a few years ago now, I asked the inspector and they said they were fine with committee CRB's as Ofsted had done them and they were Enhanced checks. Admittedly this was before the new DBS system - which I still have as an going situation for a committee member
