Hi

3.50 Accidents

Can I ask do you record every bump or fall. Sometimes we have just spoken with parents as there was no injury or just a little red mark. Should we record everything?

3.52 managing behaviour states we must keep a record of physical interventions.

Can anyone clarify is that picking a child up through to restraining?

If it's left a mark we record eg scratch, graze, pink mark. Also record every head injury even if no mark. Parents think we are mad but I would much rather make sure they know!

We would only record physical intervention when they've had to be restrained - picking a young child up and removing them from a situation putting them down to play somewhere else we wouldn't. Picking a child up and holding them on our lap to stop them from injuring themselves or others we would. Don't know if that's right but that's what we do!

We record everything - that way there can never be a 'come back' on us. Parents think we are mad too. If you keep a log of behaviour, you're covered too. Physical restraint would be separate documentation.
