Theorists and theories

Hi everyone,

Just into the real first piece of coursework for the first year of the Foundation Degree in Early Years. Just wondering if anyone has any good theorists about play.

I wish finding theorists and their theories a lot easier to find and understand!

Thanks

Hi Lorraine and welcome (your in my area!) im sure Happy Maz can help you with this. There is a great book that is very helpful...but i can't remember the name at the mo .I'll get back to you. Have college given you the book list ? i know the one i'm thinking of is on there. ;)

Linda Pound does some great books on theory/theorists called 'How Children Learn', they don't go into too much detail but are great as a starting point for further research

College have give us some books on a list but they are all to do with the modules. Just looking for a general outline to the theories so thanks for that link too.

Better get some reading done.

Thanks

Hi Lorraine,

A really excellent book is 'Understanding Early Years Theory in Practice' by Daly, B., Byers, E. and Taylor, W. (Heinemann 2006)

Good luck with your studies :1b

I teach FdA so if you have any specific theorists you've had mentioned in class and want pointing in the direction of more reading on them let me know and I'll see what I can dredge up from my memory banks.

Holly35, that would be great. To be totally honest we have had no theorists mentioned in classes yet so anything would be fantastic.

I got the Linda Pound books from a friend so thanks for the recommendations.

As you haven't had anything mentioned yet then I would start with the Pound text and then see which you want to research further from there. If you get back to me with some specific ones after that I'd be happy to recommend some resources for further reading. Feel free to PM me if you want to.
