Guest
Hi everyone, Just into the real first piece of coursework for the first year of the Foundation Degree in Early Years. Just wondering if anyone has any good theorists about play. I wish finding theorists and their theories a lot easier to find and understand! Thanks

Guest
Linda Pound does some great books on theory/theorists called 'How Children Learn', they don't go into too much detail but are great as a starting point for further research
Steve
We also have a whole series on theorists right here. :1b

Just looking for a general outline to the theories so thanks for that link too. Better get some reading done. Thanks
Helen
Hi Lorraine, A really excellent book is 'Understanding Early Years Theory in Practice' by Daly, B., Byers, E. and Taylor, W. (Heinemann 2006) Good luck with your studies :1b

Stargrower
Janet Moyles is also very good on play. She has written lots of books, but The Excellence of Play is very useful. Also if you Google Janet Moyles play theory or play spiral you should find lots of info. Best of luck!
Guest
I teach FdA so if you have any specific theorists you've had mentioned in class and want pointing in the direction of more reading on them let me know and I'll see what I can dredge up from my memory banks. Guest
I liked the Linda Pound book for a quick overview.... On who did what and introduced which ideas.
Sue R
Just thought I'd add that the Linda Pound 'How Children Learn' books are Practical Pre-school publications, if that helps.
Guest
Holly35, that would be great. To be totally honest we have had no theorists mentioned in classes yet so anything would be fantastic. I got the Linda Pound books from a friend so thanks for the recommendations.
Guest
As you haven't had anything mentioned yet then I would start with the Pound text and then see which you want to research further from there. If you get back to me with some specific ones after that I'd be happy to recommend some resources for further reading. Feel free to PM me if you want to.
