We are planning a trip to see The Croods during the school holidays and I want to theme the week around this. I am planning activities for 4-11 year olds but really want to avoid dinosaurs as they weren't around at the same time. So far I have thought of cave painting (think Lascaux) , baking soda volcanos, making caves in our small world with rocks, fossil paining, Mammoth models with lots of wool. There are lots of colouring activities on the Croods website but I really want to do something largescale as well.

I may also take them to the local museum where there is a lifesize wooly mammoth (if time allows)

How about them finding ways to transport large objects and do wheel experiments using different shapes, rollers and simple wooden wheels?

What a good idea. I can already picture the children who will love trying to move a large object from one side of the playground to the other.

Oh gosh so obvious why didn't I think of that. Brilliant thanks.

Thanks for this. We're doing 'caves' at the moment in response to their ideas for long, long ago and I was a little short on inspiration! We made a cave role play area today and will definitely be doing rock buns later in the week!
