Guest Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 We have a large contingent of traveller children in our setting. we are looking for recommendations of any books that we could get that show the traveller culture. Apparently there is a story book about a traveller child and his Wellies, does any one know it's title or of any other books we could get? Age range is 2 yrs to rising 5's thank you in advance
Froglet Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 We have a counting book at school - will have a look for the details.
Froglet Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 It's called: 'Come and count with us!' and is a touchy-feely book (along the lines of 'That's not my...' books by Usborne) e.g. How many steps? 1 smooth, white step. It has objects in and around the traveller children's homes - counts up to 5. It's written and published by:Nottinghamshire Traveller Education Service, ISBN: 0-9552162-0-6. I have no idea how publicly available it is as it was given to us during some multicultural training. I can't find my notes from that at the moment but there may well be other suggestions in there - will let you know when I find them. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Come-and-Count-with-Us/dp/0955216206 This is the book but you might be best to contact the Traveller Education lot directly: http://parents.info/nottinghamshire/serviceprovider?q=search&snac=0037&kw=%&id=10310
sunnyday Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Sean's Wellies having looked at it today - it's actually 'Shaun's Wellies' :1b
Inge Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 travellers Times not books but have a look at the video and audio selection... there should be a local traveller education service to help with books, we were given a lot of them when we had training, but they were published locally and not available any more..
