Guest Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Does anyone know whether you have to have someone with a first aid at work qualification held by someone in the setting as well as paediatric first aid??? Quote
finleysmaid Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 you dont have to have a first aid at work person at all...you just need to have someone who is responsible for the first aid equipment. Quote
louby loo Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I though you needed the 'first aid at work' if you had 25+ employees. Quote
finleysmaid Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 there are no hard and fast rules ...depends on your risk analysis i think. info here.... http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg214.pdf Quote

I [very] recently went on L3 H+S and they said 25+ !!!! ....... I dream of a world where everyone says the same/correct thing.. and yes- that 3 day health and safety course was 3 loooooooong days that I will never get back! Quote
finleysmaid Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 problem is there are an awful lot of courses out there designed just to make money not to give you the right answers Quote
lynned55 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Hmmmm.............. have always been told we HAVE to have one trained 1st aider on site every session. Is this just best practise then & NOT statutory Quote
Inge Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 It is statutory to have a first aider in every session, but I was never asked for First Aid at Work, the Paediatric one was sufficient. Just as well the cost of having someone in all the time who had completed both would have been prohibitive. Quote
Guest Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Under ofsted you only need a paediatric first aid trained person on site at all time but under health and safety you either need a EFAW or FAW depending on your risk assessment. Quote
lynned55 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Sorry, I had misread the question. Many years ago (and I do mean many, prior to Ofsted) we had two staff do a 6 or 10 week (not sure how many weeks then) first aid course to find out at the end of it, didn't cover paediatrics and wasn't accepted by Social Services!!
