Enco - Equality Working Groups

Has anybody who has attended to ENCO course actually set up an EWG ? If so, do you feel it is of any benefit to you and your setting at all ?

dear thesilentwoman...would you like to confirm what you mean by ENCO and EWG as this may be different for different areas....i would recognise EWG as an environmental working group...but i suspect you are talking about something else :o

Hi thesilentwomen

We didn't set up a EWG as there was little or no interest.

Finleysmaid it's part of the Equality Named Co ordinator course that is run by Essex County Council, to be honest not even sure if other areas are doing it. It forms part of our RAG though so staff have to attend.

Hi silent woman i have completed both training sessions and are in the process of doing the audit tool.

We are going to be having a EWG meeting in the new year.

I have asked our local vicar, committee parents and 2 staff to also be on it too.

I do think it could be a useful tool to continue to evaluate and reflect on whether you truly provide an equal setting for all that wish to be part of it, especially looking at our rented premises.

I was under the impression that this was going to be compulsory in the future from the tutor, although Ofsted at their recent visit didn't seem to know anything about it at all. :o

thanks for that ...every council seems to be different! We dont have an equality named person...comes under the INCO role (inclusion) and we do an index of inclusion which includes information from others views about our setting

It's also what used to be referred to as the Equal Opportunties Co-Ordinator.

Many Thanks for that. It would be interesting to hear any feedback that you might have.
