Guest
hi we are just in the middle of reviewing our routine and was wondering what peoples opinions are. we run for 3 hours every morning and have a mixed age group of 2 1/2 - 4 yrs in the same room this is our routine 9.00 children arrive and relf register 9.15 good mornings then the younger children go and free play in another room 9.30 all children play 10.30 tidy up and snack time 10.50ish "group time" where we will split into 3 group and do a little adult focused activity 11.00 we go and play outside 11.45 we come in and have story and singing time i dont really like stopping for snack as some take longer to eat snack than others and then they get figity etc i have tried rolling snack but the other members of staff seem to think that it looks like caios. we cant at the mo have free play between indoor and outdoor as we have to cross a car park any suggestions greatly recieved
Panders
I think the only potential problems you have are so many transition times which are difficult for some children.
diesel10
Hi I don't think you have got long enough free play in the routine. Our session is 3 hours with free play between 9am until 11am. We have a free flow snack and adult focus activity within the 2 hours. Give free flow snack another go. The children soon get used to it. Do you need to change the way you set it up? Inge
we too used to do free play until 11am with snack table and an activity during this time then all outside.. sometimes we would go our first and then come in reversing the session, particularly if it was hot or very sunny so we were not out in the hottest part of the session.. or if they were boisterous. story/songs at end Took us a while to get the right way for us to do a snack in this way.. changing it several times, but once we had it sorted we would not go back. we ended up with a cafe which opened at 10.15 ish and closed when all children had been through... our children came in groups of 6 and left when finished... where another child could join the table.. it was usually full... and we had a staff member sat with them at this time doing all the interaction and social side they got from a large group snack.. but avoided the waiting and time element in toilets etc... others continued to play . They poured own drink and snack from that provided for the day. think it took longer for the staff to realise it was less stressful for us and children than the group snack
