Car Seats And Coaches

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hello all you knowledgeable ones!!!!

Here's the problem....

We are going on a trip on Monday and found out TODAY! that even though we were told that the coach would have 3point seatbelts - they haven't they have only got lapbelts.

Therefore some child seats won't be useable with these belts.

We have told parents that if they want to use a booster seat/cushion then the child must weight 33lb or more (as this is the minimum weight for these seats) although there is no legal requirement for a car seat on a coach.

Now one of the parents has asked us "are you saying it is better for them to travel without a car seat them?"

I want to say that yes, it is better than putting a 2 year old on a booster cushion aimed at 4-6 year olds.

But I can't find any evidence!!!!

Anybody got any views, advise, website, etc????

Would really appreciate a quite response.

Thank you!!

Perhaps try phoning your local police station - after all they're the ones who do the spot checks?

or the fire station - ours offer a carseat fitting check so would surely know what advice to offer.

Good Luck, hope you get it sorted.

when we travelled by coach on a monthly basis to forest school. The coach(most coaches if not all) have lapbelts

these were fine and legal. Some of our children at 2 1/2 were comfortable and safe in them.

thanks everyone for their replies.

That is reassuring to know Suer.

It wouldn't be so bad if we hadn't found this out 10 minutes before we closed today - having already told parents that they MUST bring an appropriate car seat!!!

Thanks again.
