One of my staff members assessors informed her last week that most of the Nurseries that she visits have there own 'Swine Flu' policy and that we should have one in place too.

Is this correct, has anyone put one together, or is the assessor being over cautious?

We have a pandemic policy which takes in swine flu and policy outlining what we do if we have to close because of lack of staff due to pandemic or other circumstances.

Like Sue, we don't have a special policy for swine flu, but just rely on our usual statement re children not attending when not well, staff informing managers if not able to work etc.

What we also have is an 'exceptional circumstances' policy. We created this after the snow last winter so it is clear to parents, and the rest of us, which children would be turned away if we could open but with limited staff. We thought this would also cover if we had lots of staff off with swine flu, bird flu, fish flu, crocodile or any other type of flu, disaster, catastrophe, etc, etc!

We too have no 'swine flu' policy - but an emergency procedure in case of snow etc. or a pandemic outbreak - not detailed swine flu as such as it may be a different one nexct year!!!! Have attached it - HTH - Zoe

at our recent welfare audit we were told we should have a swine flu policy. I haven't got round to writing it yet, probably a job for half term. Just hope we don't need it before then!

Thank you for all your replies.

I will put together a policy, which will cover flu outbreaks etc etc.
