Self Initiated Writing Activites For Boys

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi just wondering if anyone has any ideas for independent writing activites. I have a group of boys who have poor fine motor control and very relucant to write. These boys are very able but their writing skills are letting them down.

I have focused on gross motor skills improving co-ordination which inturn helps fine motor skills.

Tried finger painting, using washing up containers to squirt letters on the school yard, interactive white-board large letter formation activity. Praise, encouragement, stickers what else can I do

help !!!

Could you get special pencils? Ben10 etc and similar magazines, a friend said she had clipboards and spiderman pencils which she put under a table which was covered with a sheet and they loved it

The CC where I am governor has been focusing on developing boys writing and fine motor skills. As part of their they stratgey been doing a focused session with playdough once or twice a week with children who have poor fine manipulative skills. They are now in the second year of this and it has proved very effective in supporting children to develop the co-ordination and strength in arm, wrist and finger movements. They did of course make this fun!
