Tongs, Tweezers And Pipettes

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I've finally got round to ordering some tongs, tweezers and pipettes for my reception class to develop their fine motor skills - I just wondered if you had any super duper ideas for things to do with them?

So far I'm thinking sequins and seeds... might not last me a whole year!!

We love tongs and tweezers..............

We use them often in the water, as you have said with sequins, but also with beads, "jewels" or nuggets.

As part of a counting activity we have used the rubber animals, fruits shapes, mini dinosaurs. We have them in the water but with pots alongside for counting them in to.

Those tweezers can be quite tricky so we do spend alot of time with tongs first!

We use one of those non slip bath mats turned upside down, so the the popper bits are stiching out like little cups, with marbles and tongs. The children enjoy tring to fill up all of the 'cups' with the marbles using the tongs to pick them up. Have learnt to put this in the tuff spot tray so that marbles don't roll everywhere!!

How about hiding things in playdough and using the tweezers/tongs to pick away at the playdough to reveal the hidden treasure?

Haven't done this myself, you understand - and can't remember where I've seen it! Probably someone on here... :o

Think there's something in this months Child Ed about picking sequins out of jelly using tweezers - challenge to get them out without too much jelly on. (Don't think sucking the jelly off is allowed!!) Will check if anyone's interested.
