Guest
I know all the supermarkets have lots of their goodies in for Christmas, but driving through our little cornish town today I noticed that one of the gift shops has decorated the window with big red baubles ready for Christmas. I actually drove round twice just to check. Can't help thinking it's a little early. I shall go in at the weekend and see if they have nusical things playing. Wouldn't you just love to work there!! I love christmas, but there is a limit jackie

HappyMaz
This makes me quite sad, actually. My Dad was one of those funny old men who light up their houses with a million Christmas lights using up enough power to keep the national grid going for a year. It became quite a joke in the family because come Hallowe'en he'd have them all up and ready for the trick or treaters. And when someone said "have you seen that loony who has his house lit up like a powerstation?" we'd have to admit that actually he's my uncle/grandpa/dad... Then he got poorly a couple of years ago with a virus that attacked his brain and he just isn't interested any more - in fact sometimes he's not sure what day it is let alone what season. So under my bed at present I have a B&Q-aisle's worth of Christmas rope lights, tree lights, silouhette lights and garden lights that used to adorn his tiny flat for the best part of eight weeks each year. Mind you, I'm not sad enough about it to put them all up outside my house! Perhaps I should have a garage sale instead.... Maz
Guest
call me grump but am i the only one who thinks ti gets earlier every year, Don't get me wrong with two young children under ten and a pre-school I love the excitement that the kids have but the whole thing has just got so commercialised and the old traditions of christmas seem to get forgotten!!. Having said that We do carry out our family traditions every year!! as someone has to keep them going!!!
Inge
Local garden centre has the trees up and decorations for sale and grotto well under construction.. (I always feel it wrong or inappropriate before Remembrance Day) Inge
Beau
I love Christmas but think the magic is lost nowadays because the build up is too long. I also think that people have lost the spirit behind it too (I'm not religious at all but do think it should be more than just about buying expensive presents and eating to excess). I'm all for kicking it back to December where it belongs.

JacquieL
Yes the same near us Inge. I wish it didn't start until December 1st which is what we always did in school. There is far too much hype, but the retail trade obviously rely on it. I saw Christmas Pudding in M&S yesterday. September! I do really love Christmas but I'm a traditionalist. I love the tree, sending cards and going to a candlelit church at Midnight. I really love having all my family on Christmas day- but to fit them all in last year we ended up in a large tent outside last year. We converted one of those car port things from Costco and used lots of patio heaters etc. Great fun! We even added guttering which was just as well as it rained a lot. Guest
I am a definate Grinchette about Christmas, I have 4 birthdays in the week before (son and daughter both born on the 21st 6 years apart then son had his son on the 20th and my dad on the 22nd), it starts way too early all the shops here have their Christmas stock out now so the magic is gone, but this year it can't get here quick enough for me because daughter comes home from uni ~ 16 weeks is a long time when we haven't managed 16 days yet
HappyMaz
A parent arrived today with a giant Santa Claus who (when his battery pack is switched on) play silent night on his violin! Apparently her neighbour was throwing it in the skip and she thought the nursery should have it, instead. Lucky us! Maz

Guest
I love christmas but do feel it's just a little too early to get festive at the moment.....I like to get halloween and bonfire night out of the way.
Guest
I have got no space for Christmas in my thoughts yet! Far too much to do with the house move, school move etc. My youngest sons birthday is in a few weeks (havent' thought too much about it yet), need to organise a leaving party and then there is halloween and bonfire night. I'll start thinking about Christmas after our lovely (though completely barmy as my husband says) carnivals in November. Was reading on money saving expert that there are some places you can write to and get a free response from Father Christmas if you write before a certain date. I'll have a quick look and see if I can find out any info. Here it is Santa Reindeer Land SAN TA1 Must be received before December 12 preferably earlier. Letter must have a stamp on it. Apparently Royal Mail has said that replies will be sent.

Guest
We've used Norad for about 6 years. Its the same every year (love Ringo Starrs UK bit) and it's become a bit of a tradition. The last 3 years we've been in portugal but we've still accessed it in the hotel to check where 'he'is I would recommend parents add it to their favourites ready for Christmas eve especially for those with in betweenies-7-9 yrs Starts at 10am Christmas Eve so keeps them busy throughout a busy day

narnia
last year, our children sent letters to santa, which we didn't put stamps on (santa doesn't need stamps, does he????) and simply addressed them to 'santa'..........................every single child had a lovely reply, with a card to colour/decorate to hang on their tree.Lovely. HappyMaz
lucky Maz with the Santa .. now where can U store him rest of year.. Stroke of luck there, Inge. We had a christmas shopping evening and put our 'lovely' Santa on our raffle table. We ended up with two people fighting over him - and now he's gone to live with a friend of one of our parents! You should have seen her eyes light up when her ticket was drawn... Maz
Inge
At least you don't have him in spare room all summer as we did when we had a huge Santa.. We noticed everyone pointing at our window and laughing as they walked past...on investigation we had put him on a table out of the way not realising that he was sat looking out of the window! He almost filled the window so was very visible... we raffled him too.. a relief for him to have a new home.. funny thing is I still see him sat in a window of his hew owners all year round!
