Cheer Me Up, Please.

Should have been in foreign parts tonight.

Was very apprehensive about our annual holiday as elder son was off with his girlfriend and her family to Italy and the 3 of us were off to Austria today. Elder son had a very early flight so we checked into a hotel near the airport last night. Husband escorted son to bus stop this morning to take him off to the terminal when very unexpectedly, after a break of over 5 years, son had a seizure.

So now we are back at home contemplating the insurance wrangles and wondering whether we can get anything else sorted at short notice for our holiday.

I'm so relieved everyone is ok but feel deflated now and our hopes that his epilepsy may have been an adolescent blip seem remote again.

Oh Susan! Am absolutely gutted for you, can't really think of anything to cheer you up babe. Get that insurance sorted and get away somewhere before term starts again!

We are all thinking of you and your family, if that helps!

Repeat what lizgriffin has said how sad for you all the worst part is thinking that the epilepsy has become a distance memory and for it to rare it's head again. My thoughts are with you all and I hope you can sort out a super last minute holiday some where fantastic. Hugs and prayers to you all.

I'm sorry your holiday(s) are spoilt and so sorry to hear about your son. I suffer from epilepsy too so can appreciate how gutted you must feel after a five year gap.

Meanwhile Susan some thoughts to cheer you up

1) You have avoided all flight delays by not flying at all

2) You don't have a suitcase full of dirty washing to deal with - everything can go straight back into the wardrobe

3) You are stocked up with spare toothpaste, toiletries etc. for the next few weeks

4) You won't miss any episodes of Big Brother, Corrie or Eastenders (or whatever your preferred viewing happens to be)

5) No danger of getting carried away and overspending in duty free - so you needn't dread next month's credit card bill

I'm sure others will have more ideas, love Posy

Susan. I'm so sorry you have missed out on the holiday you were looking forward to and I'm sure really needed. I hope your son is alright.

Posy's response was very clever - she must be an optimist!

Best wishes to you and your family.

My warmest wishes are with you.

Hopefully when you get the insurance sorted you will be able to find a really good last minute deal..... look at crystal holidays website they have some fantastic late deals to Austria.....

We managed to book a steal of a holiday yesterday to Corsica..... hopefully you will all get a break to.

Hi

Sorry to hear the hol didn't work out but am sure the next one will be better. And, you never know, you might even get some sunshine in the UK this week and won't be on hol thinking- 'typical, we go away and its nice at home!' Hope your son is OK.

Hi Susan

Hope things are sorting themselves out and your son's ok. Imagine what a nightmare it would have been if it had happened when your son was away and you were in Austria - no perhaps don't - but at least it was easier to deal with in this country.

Another holiday will come your way and as someone just posted here ..... the weather is really looking good for this week (just ignore any urges to do some school work!). Get well wishes to your son - he must be so dissappointed.

I cant cheer you up as I am feeling that way myself. Not half as bad as you have been through but I had an accident in my sons car and cant seem to come to terms with it as the other party was fine at the time but has later thought about claiming injurys for an accident which is not your fault- you know the advert. And I have 2 other children on holiday, I dont even know if it was my fault but she made me feel it was - you dont want to know what I could call her

HI Susan, thank goodness your son had his dad with him. I think this could be time for you to gather your thoughts and have some time together. Sort out the loose ends and plan for your next holiday, keep on looking forward. I really hope you have a peacefull summer. Take sometime out for you.

Hi Maximoomoo

sorry to hear about your traumas. Car accidents can be dreadful to sort out. Hope it will be smoother soon.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. We are beginning to feel more in control today, having been able to seek medical advice and get hold of insurance company and starting the ball rolling. Just hope our claim will go through ok and we can get away for a few days before the end of the week.

Contemplating a trip to Rome now to deliver son to his girlfriend but I dont like hot!

Can anyone recommend a good hotel?

forget the hotels in Rome request!

His neurologist will see him on Monday, which while excellent news is very disappointing for him, so we will be holidaying in England if we can find a hotel!

Just read all your news Susan, what a shame for all of you. Theres never a good time for these things to happen but like someone has said, at least you werent already in Austria when it happened. England is a lovely place to holiday and so long as you get somewhere for a break it's better than nothing.

I've just spent 5 days in hospital with Richard (14) with a perforated appendics. Luckily we dont go away until this weekend but it was a close call. No mountain climbing for him this year. But on a brighter note, for him anyway, he doesnt have to do any of his jobs around the house. Older brother not amused! :o

Hope your news on the hotel front is good and the neurologists news is good too. xD

So sorry to hear your news but thankful too, like others have said, that you were there for your son when he needed you. Give him my best wishes for his appointment on Monday and hopefully from this he can have his unanswered questions answered.

Holidays can be rebooked but having mum and dad around when needed is priceless. Hope you get the insurance sorted without too much hassle and have a good break, once you know your son is ok.

Peggy
