  1. HI I've coppied an old plan from last year, (sorry can't seem to see how to attach...doh) I used Zog when we did a castle topic and built on it throughout the week, the class really loved the dragon egg nest that was left in the classroom,(they were green and still warm when the children found them) it propmted lots for letter writing to/from the mummy dragon and the children.

LEAVE DRAGON EGGS IN CLASSROOM FOR CHILDREN TO FIND ON TUESDAY.

Chn should have found the dragon eggs. With nest making materials and blankets feathers hay etc….encourage speculation re care of eggs.

Ask the question; “What does a dragon look like?” Elicit stereotypes from pupils e.g. green, scaly,

wings, fire-breathing, sharp teeth etc. Ask pupils to think about a dragon that they are going to design.

/ What will it look like?

    / How will it behave?

/ Is it friendly or fierce?

/ What is the dragon’s story?

    Use dragon outline for writing/drawing

  2. Thanks for the comments. I have been unable to get back online since I posted. I attended EYFS assessment training and the trainers delivering the session stressed how important the CoEL were, which we all know and instinctively plan for. They said to record this in planning.

Planning at school seems to be an issue at the moment too, so in reception we are currently revising our planning format and thought that I should note CoEL???? I just wondered if others were including it too?

ohhh I'm not sure about this now. Thanks for your comments.

  3. Our whole school topic is rainbows and we all had to make a class display......I've attached a picture of the wax/melt art work we did in my reception class.

I must stress that the boy in the picture is my little boy, this was the practise canvas at home....I'll try to try to take a picture of the display and upload asap.

The class loved this activity, I was able to make lots of observations re the changes to the wax & the colour mixing. We just used PVA glue to stick crayons onto canvas and used a hair-dryer to melt. post-18910-0-15437800-1347404738_thumb.jpg

  4. Hi Sarah

We've done lots of repeating patterns to make pirate treasure. We used pasta, and other bits and bobs to make bracelets.

We made breakfast for the captain, making boiled eggs, using a timer, we played what time is it captain hook and learnt to tell o'clocks.

Made maps for the bee bots and counted the number of steps needed and used positional/ directional language.

I've made a rock pool in the water tray.....chn have sorted the shells. Chn have also sorted pirate jewels and treasure.

We have a pirate role play with cafe, the chn have been making pirate soup....I've since provided spoons, cauldrons, white boards and pens and recipe cards. ( so add 2 cups of pasta, 1 cup of grog etc.. )

Counting coins........hope that's of use, that's what I can remember from the last two weeks. If that's the type of thing you're looking for I'll post again with other ideas we will be trying for the next few weeks.

  5. I've jsut dowloaded an app for my ipad called simple eyfs, it allows you to take photos and then link it to the children in the photo, the ELG & then it store the info, make report and send emails. I'll just stared to use it be it seems good. I emailed the developers, they will be updating it for Sep 2012.

  6. Dear Scarlettangel, thinking of you, my friend who is a specialist cancer nurse says that low grade means it's been caught early and can be treated and cured, she says that cysts can change and become cancerous and it's best to have them removed. So you're half way there already.

I had a cyst in my neck that grew around to my skull....I to had nerve damage but it repaied itself. Fingers crossed that yours will too.

Sending you lots of love and hugs, Nicky xxxxx

  7. Hi Guys

Sorry I've not responded sooner....I've been moving into my new house.

I have used a tracker (obtained from the internet) that lists the phases & I have recorded which children are at which part of each phase. (It's a table in a word document) I began making an excel spreadsheet. I wanted to track progress but also wanted a back up to my paper files.

I just wondered if anyone else did this, or if anyone recorded their information in any other way? Maybe I don't need to record it in this way.

If I do manage to create something in excel that is useful, I'll be sure to share it.

Many Thanks for all of the replies.

    Nicky
