  1. I guess the real issue here is IT security. It does seem a bit "shut the stable door after the horse has bolted" to have a blanket ban on mobiles, and yet all settings take photos and are we sure how secure our systems are in handling them? I notice someone suggested it may be safer to take a photo with a camera and then email to the parent...in my eyes this presents exactly the same risks as using a phone...

I suspect that the managers response to the questions of the inspector were the nail in the coffin here, ie not recognising the risks of the Vanessa George case. i suspect there was no camera/phone/ICT policy in place,

I notice the inspector makes a comment on how the manager fails to monitor the use of phones.

Whether I agree with the blanket ban on mobiles or not, I have to say that anyone using one during an inspection, probably will get what they deserve.

  2. found this for you...

  3.

question: how do I become a committee member, reply "why do you want to" ?, because I want to stay as the nominated person, reply "you don't need to be a committee member we have you as manager/nominated person", but hasn't it changed, doesn't the nominated person have to be a committee member now ? reply "oh don't worry about that, its for new registrations" ...WHAT !!!

Yay!! That's the best news ever...and if anyone tries to tell me anything different...DON'T!!!!!!!!

  4. Sorry to be pedantic BUT it talks as shown below about registering on the EYR. Can we argue that we are already registered, not registering? Any thoughts?

In addition to the general requirements, other early years providers registering on the early years register must:

n where the applicant is a partnership, body corporate, or unincorporated association applying to provide childcare on domestic or non-domestic premises, nominate an individual (‘the nominated individual’) to represent the organisation in its dealings with Ofsted relating to the registration. The nominated individual must be a partner, director, secretary, other officer or member of the governing body of the organisation. The nominated individual may also act as the manager of the provision as long as he or she is a member of the governing body

  5. I have just had an e-mail from Internetkit to say they have ceased trading. They are offering a discount with another company but I want to shop around. I paid about £100 in August but this is non refundable- very annoying even more annoying that I have lost everything that I have put on there. Never mind I can download all again , just going to take a bit of time.Does anyone know of a reasonable one. Thanks

I too have had the email from ik.org....not sure that I believe all that old rubbish about all their IT problems,,,and am very cross

  6. "As from the 1st January 2016, the Nominated Individual must be part of the organisations governing body. For example if the organisation is a company then the Nominated Individual would have to be one of the directors, likewise if it was a committee the Nominated Individual would have to be part of the committee"

Where did you get this? I've not seen this before.

  7. Sad isn't it. For us, we have known that we were going to lose our premises for some time, and it became clear early on that finding new premises would be an uphill struggle. We have therefore spent the last 2 years preparing for closure, carefully budgeting to ensure we can cover redundancy costs, and for us, the losses of being open in the final year with much lower numbers as anticipated. The LA seem indifferent, we have no local PSLA so we are muddling along on our own...

We are lucky in some ways..we did have healthy reserves , and thus could plan for closure rather than be forced to close at short notice. Never the less, I would warn any nursery who is renting rather than leasing premises to be very aware of the risks and potential liabilities associated with closure.

  8. Sorry for the delay in replying. Our previous inspection grade was also outstanding. The reality is that with or without any help with relocation costs (assuming we could find alternative suitable premises, which we can not), I think the writing really is on the wall for sessional providers. We are not viable financially in comparison with day care providers. Sad, but true.
