belle06 Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 Hi All I am looking for downloadable Makaton signs in approximately A4 size that i can laminate and display round the setting for staff and children. I have found lots of bSL but no Makaton and as this is the one our local EY have done training on would like to stick to this. Can any one help me with this please. Thanks Shelley
Guest Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 Have you seen the Makaton site which you can find here. You may find some ideas on there. Linda
skippy Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 just wondering if anyone know the difference between BSL and Makaton?
Guest Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 Hi skippy I f you look at the Makaton site that I have put a link to on the last post I made on this topic I think you may find an explanation there. Linda
Inge Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 we use the ones found here on cbeebies site, something special , this site gives a simple explanation of makaton, it is a much simpler version of sign language than BSL, designed to allow signs which are easy to sign and rmember BSL being more 'sophisticated' for want of a better word. we were told it was used to help soldiers returning from wars communicate with the nurses which is why some signs like sister relate to the nurses uniform , if you can learn the origin of them i found them easier to remember, red being an imitation of putting on lipstick! Guest Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 You will find it hard to find Makaton resources as they are very 'precious' with their stuff. Our LEA is changing from Makaton to Sign-a-long which is almost exactly the same but much clearer in how to sign and better resources. I'm just learning stuff now as I use signing every day.
