ChinWag Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 Just a quickie, I have appointed two new apprentices, can I count them in ratio before their DBS comes through? Quote
larnielass Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 Where I am, we don't count anyone under 17 in ratio. Generally they don't start until DBS/check is done. Quote
ChinWag Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 I understand best practice but I am a bit stuck with staff sickness and other issues - ideally I wouldn’t I just wondered if I could if needed I don’t think i can keep doing 11 hour days 🙈 Quote
finleysmaid Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 3.29. Only those aged 17 or over may be included in ratios (and staff under 17 should be supervised at all times). Students on long term placements and volunteers (aged 17 or over) and staff working as apprentices in early education (aged 16 or over) may be included in the ratios if the provider is satisfied that they are competent and responsible. however you wouldn't be able to leave them alone and a member of staff with a PFA must be on duty with them Quote
ChinWag Posted September 6, 2019 Author Posted September 6, 2019 Thank you so much, I know I should know this, but I am sooo busy my head is a little fuzzy and I have relied, once again on my FSF friends that have supported me since 2006 - thank you for your time and help, it is really appreciated....... 3 Quote

Rebecca Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 Just now, louby loo said: Paediatric First Aid ? (that's my thinking anyway) Oh yes! Silly me. Is there a requirement that they are working alongside someone who hasn't got DBS through yet though? My understanding is that anyone without DBS cannot be alone with any child and so must always be working alongside a colleague. There must be a PFA (Let's go with that!!) on site at all times and all new L2 and L3 staff must have PFA to count in the ratio - I didn't think PFA and DBS were linked criteria? Quote
