Tigger
I haven't posted for a very long time but I have a question I can't seem to find a definitive answer too... We are a school nursery and are looking to change our hours to be in line with school. Our sessions are currently 8:30 to 11:30 and the 12:20 to 3:20. Any parents wishing their child to stay for lunch or have lunch then the afternoon session pay extra for our lunchclub. As the majority of our children are fulltime and / or using their 30 hours we were wondering if we could do away with 2 session times and lunchclub and just open 9am to 3:00 pm? This would mean lunch would be part of the 6 hours...Is that allowed? We would then say to any parents who only want to have 15 hours they could use it flexibly within these times over the week.. We have breakfast and after school club so there is the opportunity for wrap around care. From Tigger
thumperrabbit
That's what we are planning on doing too! We are thinking we will have 9-12 12-1 lunch 1-3 children can leave at 12, 1pm or 3pm If they are only 15 hours ch they can pay extra for either just an hour for lunch or pay for lunch & afternoon session. The thing we are 'mulling over' is how to supervise lunchtime because of staff needing a break - how do you manage your lunchtime? Tigger
We have 2 staff just to run lunchclub. However, when I did a search on this forum, many years ago, someone posted that as it was part of the funded 15 hours these people would have to be qualified and it would need to be a 'learning experience'.If we were to open the hours you and I were thinking then the lunch hour would be part of the funded hours.
finleysmaid
Would you be able to charge for lunch though? in our borough you would have to allow parents to opt out of lunch if it was a charged activity. What do other schools in your area do?

Two of our settings offer this - we manage to cover it because the number of children is always lower, because they don't all stay so the staff have their lunch in two stages. Half of them sit with the children for lunch whilst the other half have a break, then they swap over and half of them play outside with children whilst the first lot have a break.

What do other schools in your area do? We will only charge if ch are going over their 15 hours, if they are within funding hours we won’t charge. other schools in our area all open longer than 30 hrs a week - we won’t be. MarshaD
We are open between 08:00 and 17:00 but have two core sessions. Morning starts at 08:45, afternoon at 12:30. We have lunch club in the middle. Our 30 hour day is 08:45 to 14:45 we also do 08:45 to 13:45 and 08:45 to 15:30. We charge for lunch club if it’s additional to funded or private hours. and there is a charge for the meal. Parents can provide packed lunch if they prefer.
