Ratios again!

Recommended Posts

Hi Just wondering if you can clarify.

I have 3 members of team who are level 6 qualified but have always counted them in as 1:8 (3 & 4 year olds). But if I were to count them as 1:13 what happens if they are off sick or out training? Do I need to replace with another level 6? Because if they were covered by a level 3 I would not be within ratio?

Sorry if it is a silly question.

Hi there.

As you have 3, what are the chances that all three are out at the same time, in which case yes you would have to look at your ratios.

But as long as you have one person with QTS, EYPP,or EYT, and they are working directly with the children, you can apply the 13 to 1 ratio if you wish.

Yes I know i may seem very lucky to have 3 but they are all part time and there are times when I may not be able to replace one with another.

So would you agree that I would be out of ratio and falling fowl of the statutory requirement if on the odd occasion of sickness/training I am not able to keep to 1:13.

Hi there.

can I just check....are all level 6's (ie someone with a degree ) classed in one of these catagories???

LKeyteach...I would think your assumption is correct so 2 of your level 6's could have 26 children between them and one level 3 working with them could have 8 so 34 in total but if one was off then they would need to cover the same level's children (if that makes sense!)
