Biometric access systems

Hi Stargrower,

We previously had this installed in our setting but it was more trouble than it was worth. You may be able to find a different system with better fingerprint reading than the model we had but it frequently wouldn't recognise staff and we had to double up with a paper based solution also. Another issue that was identified was in the event of a fire or emergency you didn't have a staff/ visitor record than could quickly be picked up on the way out and in a busy centre you could never be sure if all members of staff were out of the building. Plus, we advocate messy play as i'm sure you all do but unless you fingers were completely clear it would not recognise you.

A company approached me about this just recently. They talked a good talk but the basic cost was £170 or thereabouts each month. This was a prohibitive cost for us. Going for audio system instead.

Just an auto com type system I guess. So you can talk to and buzz in parents / visitors. A video one was nearly a grand. Again very nice but out of my price range and a bit of a luxury rather than a necessity.

We have a camera outside the front door and a TV screen inside so that we can see who is at the door. This only cost £200 to install (and obviously no running costs). I wondered about biometric as I was approached by a company too but the price is prohibitive.
