Coconut - silly question

This seems like a really silly question because it would seem that the answer's in the name, but someone asked me today and now I'm not sure, so please help

Is a coconut a nut when thinking about allergies?

no its a seed but some people with nut allergies can be allergic to coconuts...though it's not that common
