graduation poems ideas

Over the last few years we have started a simple graduation ceremony for our preschoolers leaving us. This year I thought it would be nice for the children to recite a simple poem about moving on/ saying goodbye. Any ideas?

We use a song (done to the type of us military drill sergeant style chant), you could use it as a poem if needed.

We're all from our great preschool

Now we're off to our big school

We have learnt our ABC's

We all know our 123's

1-2-3-4

1 2 3 4

Learning colours and shapes on the way

Listening to what the grownups say

We've all been as good as gold

That's what we have all been told

1-2-3-4

1 2 3 4

We've had lots of fun today

Now it's time to be on our way

Hope to see you again some day

All that's left for us to say is

1-2-3-4

1 2 3 4

You could use it without the 1-2-3-4, etc

The children who are moving to big school walk through an arch to recieve their leaving gift and their Learning Journey while we sing

To the tune of Frere Jaque

Clever (....Name.....) Clever (....Name....)

Moving up, moving up.

Remember all the good times

Remember all the good times

We wish you luck, we wish you luck

ooh I can't find the handout of songs we sang to give to parents, must not have copied it onto my external hard disk before I left but we simply sang lots of songs which I suppose you could simply say instead! From what I can think of off top of my head and with a little help from google!....

GRADUATION DAY (sung to the tune ~My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean~ credit: From the Perpetual Preschooler)

We hope you enjoyed our program (we changed the words here but can't remember what to!)
We thank you for coming today
We thank you for all that you've done for us
As we go our separate ways
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye to all of my friends
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye to all of my friends
Good luck to everyone on graduation day

To 'she'll be coming round the mountain'

We're off to Reception yes we are,

Oh We're off to Reception yes we are,

We're off to Reception,

Off to Reception,

Off to Reception yes we are

And we won't be here in pre-school any more, etc

I'm a Little Graduate (to I'm a little teapot)

I'm a little graduate

Dressed in black,
Wearing a gown
and a cap.

When I leave preschool
I will be, A Reception pupil, Aren't you proud of me?

10. WE MUST SAY GOODBYE (sung to the tune ~Row, Row, Row Your Boat ~ credit: Jean Warren w/ Preschool Express

Clap, clap, clap your hands,
Graduations here.
Now we must say goodbye.
To friends we had this year.

Clap, clap, clap your hands,
We've worked the whole year through
Now we must say goodbye,
To you and you and you. (Point to fellow students)

Clap, clap, clap your hands,
Graduation's here.
Now we, all will go,
To Reception next year!

There's some nice songs here (its got the ones mentioned above as it jogged my memory) but you could always say them instead of singing perhaps

We played Heather Small- Proud, The Wanted- Gold Forever, Take That- Greatest Day...ooh I'm welling up thinking about it, it was lovely to see the children so grown up and ready to go!

Thanks for the ideas. We are going to sing a couple of songs the children have learnt in their French lessons but think I may try seeing if they grasp some these too. xx

Thank you so much for these, I want to introduce a few different songs this year.

One Im encouraging them to learn is a verse of Lean on Me
