Mouseketeer
we recently moved into a modular building on a school site, but stayed independent to the school, we've now had the valuation officer turn up can anyone else in this situation tell me if they pay council tax and approx monthly charge as we really weren't expecting this, not sure if being a reg charity makes any difference. thanks
finleysmaid
not sure about your exact circumstance but valuation you are given is not what you pay. At present you pay about 43p in the pound and then you should as a registered charity get 80% relief also. If you contact your local council they may also rduce this rate further or even make it 0 if they see fit. If you go on the VOA office website you can do a comparison between your setting and other similar buildings in your area
Mouseketeer
thank you, will take a look, was a bit of a shock as i dont know any other local settings in the same position as us that have even been valued.
finleysmaid
not as much as a shock as mine that arrived the other day with a valuation of £18,500!!!....nearly fainted and then spoke to the man about it ...think we have it at a manageable level now ...after he was extremely patronising on the phone
fimbo
we are in the same position as you, we had a valuation, but get 100% relief as we are a registered charity.

finleysmaid
the relief amount up to 80% is standard the other 20% is up to your council...ours is not inclined to give 100% apparently so glad you got yours Fimbo cross your fingers for me! fimbo
the valuation officer told us at the time we would probably get 100% relief - i think she could see the fear in my eyes !! hope it goes well for you
Deb
As a registered charity on a school site in our own building we get the full 100% relief.
Orangejabberwocky
We are on a school site but independent. What rent do you pay the council? as we are disputing our 180% increase! Thanks
fimbo
we are on a school site -as an independent registered charity, but pay no rent. think they call it 'peppercorn rent' ?? as the LA and school, govenors thought it more beneficial to have a pre-school on the grounds. we own our own building tho.
