Sharing Information

hi - can someone help me - we have several children who also attend other settings - we have sent out letters to parents asking for details of other setting and keyperson and permission to contact these. we have now contacted most - and have had only one reply - this one has now mentioned that as we share the care of the child we should have the same next steps ( next area to progress in ) and should work together on these.

is that right - i assumed that we would just share any information we felt relevant / wow moments etc - is this right or am i on wrong track?

We only inform, if we had an SEN child then I would follow the next step plan that we had ALL decided upon. If you are looking at different areas to them, and have different next steps, that's an awful lot of next steps to be following!

I would say it is up to you how much you do in partnership with the other setting. I don't believe it says in the EYFS documents that you need to share next steps, but I will go and take a look!!

It was my understandning that you would share everything, so if Billy liked the trains and had a fasination you would both ensure you didnt just repeqt the same activitties with him but would both extend and compliment each other. You dont have to give loads of details though. Where would you find the time?

I've just read that back to myself, where would you find the time to do any of it if every child went somewhere else?!

I would say that the next steps may be specific to the setting. By that I mean a child might be doing things at one place which he isn't doing at the other setting. For example we have a little boy with us who also attends elsewhere. He has gone there since he was six months old but is only with us since he was two years. He is much more settled there than with us as he is still getting to know us. Our observations might lead us to determine next steps to be to do with settling in and making attachments but in the other setting that might not be relevant. Does that make sense? This is how I plan to use shared information should we ever get any!
