Cait
Hmm, could the children focus on specific 'bits' of themselves? so someone paints a big eye after you really look at one, someone else does a hand etc and then you scribe next to it their thoughts on what they can use those bits of themselves for? blondie
what about drawing around a boy and girl cut them out then with childrens help paint the face using skin tone etc. tell the children they will help you make some clothes to add to the figures. they will need help to make their piece of clothing the appropriate size to the figures so cut out some basic templates of tops, trousers, dresses and so on and suggest the children design the pattern and colours for the clothes. when ready attach pieces of velcro to the back of each piece then attach velcro pieces to appropriate spot on the figures. put figures on the wall place the clothes in a basket next to the figures so children can decide what the figures wear that day - could do this according to the weather type. Guest colechin
What about doing a paper plate face. So they have to look in the mirror and they have a choice of different coloured wool for their hair and different coloured stickers for their eyes. Or they could just draw how they see themselves on to the plate. Pipe cleaners are good for hair bands or glasses. We have also painted their hands and feet and then cut them out to use as a boarder. We also drew around a boy and girl them took a photo of them A4 size and laminated it. Then the children helped stick different material/textures to the cut out to represent what they were wearing. Another idea is to have life size cut outs and dress them in different clothes. ie PJ's, Uniform, Gym Clothes (Hobbies), Outdoor clothes etc, then have pictures of the relevant children at the side of your cut out in their specific outfits. Hope that helps you.
narnia
we occasionally do paper plate faces...........with a twist! We collect faces from magazines/ newspapers etc ( sometims mags have lovely luscious lips etc, when they're doing make-up ads) and then cut them up into their component parts....so, we end up with a pile of noses; eyes, ears etc. Then, we let the children loose to choose the parts to make a new face.............trying not to get all of the pieces from the same face. It looks extremely weird..and often absolutely hilarious!! Really nice if you can get pics of sports people too.....the expressions on their faces are often really fab!! Guest
Hi we sometimes use small empty boxes for body (e.g. oxo, paracetamol boxes )children have to look in mirror and decide on the colour of their belly and paint the box, we cut out head 2 arms and two legs and the children colour these in to match their body we get some pretty strange lookin boys and girls we put these on the display with the childs name on.
