Can someone just clarify what this statement means:

'Begin to break the flow of speech into words' ?

Thanks

'Begin to break the flow of speech into words' ?

An example might be when children dictate a story to you, or ask you to write something specific on a picture.

I'm tempted also to say when children are writing labels such as "please keep off the grass" and point to each word as they say it (even if they are pointing to emergent writing and not fully recognisable words).

But I might be wrong. What do the teachers think?

I always understood it to mean those children who dictate their sentence/phrase word by word when you are scribing for them and/or those who read back their own writing pointing to one part for each word they say.
