Guest
hi all yet again another thread on planning we really want to change ours as we think its done too far in advance. currently we use this weeks observations to plan next weeks activities but feel that by the time next week comes the children may no longer benefit from this planning, eg child interested in throwing a ball, next week activity with balls child now interested in something else, we want planning to be more responsive/there and then or daily or retrospectively. how does this look on paper and work in pracitce? someone at another of our settings has suggested sitting together with the children in the morning to discuss what we should do that day and record this as our planing, that could work well for older children, but i need to think of a fromat that will suit the whole centre, 0-4.5 years
Cait
Try it and see how you get on. Or plan an activity for maybe Monday and Tuesday and leave the rest of the week for CP and child initiated things. Retrospective planning can work well, and I've done it when children initiate an activity which other children take on board as well
Beau
We always wrote down what we were putting out at the start of the week and then would enhance/change on a rolling basis throughout the week. This was written onto the planning sheet, so it was clear what we had done and why. Staff could also make comments here about future activities they thought might be useful - with the best will in the world some activities can't be done 'off the cuff' and need a little advanced planning! Guest
There is still a place for advanced planning- after all it prevents all the scratching of heads-what shall we get out today thinking!! I think you should have a rough weekly plan then adapt it daily as things happen. Some truly wonderful activities have evolved from something simple. We all need a little inspiration though sometimes- that's what the forum is for. Evaluations are essential to show what has been learnt and where to take it next. Guest
ok so he has played with the ball now enhance that by bringing out different types or bats or something to throw ball into or painting with ball and why wait till next week bring it out and alter your plan it is a working document not smething that should be followed rigidly as long as you write down what you did and have obs to follow it through
