Guest
Evening all At the nursery i work at we have been following the theme of colours and people who help us and may wera that particular colour uniform. After the holiday we are looking at all the colours and will be making rainbows. Can anyone help me by suggesting an idea for a good role play area. Guest
When we did colours we made an artist studio. We made a hand print rainbow with the childrens favorite colours. We've also used paint watered down and in fairy liqued bottels sprayed on large sheets of paper. Great messy fun the kid's loved it. We also used coloured dough to make models. purplewednesday1
How about a 'gold' treasure basket with lots of fabulous rich velvets, bracelets, bags, shoes etc all the gold bits could be the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow - you could make a great den out of a parachute so that the children could explore all the gold bits inside the rainbow ... if you have some of those long floor mirrors you could put them inside the den and then all the clours reflecting would be really magical Or how about rainbow music? sunny sounds (tinkly bells?, chime bars?) and rain sounds (rainsticks and home made shakers) - once the children know how a rainbow is made they could have hours of fun trying to make the sunny sounds and the rainy sounds blend together in balance - so that the sound together is a rainbow
Guest
When we explored colour we made a maypole using coloured plastic curtain ribbons and a cutlery holder with rotating top, and another one with me as the 'pole'. Rain pictures are interesting, brings in conversations about the weather, how colours can be merged together in a different way. (this idea wasn't planned, when it was raining one day I just thought What would happen if....?) Sing the rainbow song using Makaton signs. Sorry not any role play ideas but like the one about an artists, maybe expand to have an 'Art Gallery' get the children to compose the description for each picture (adult to write), maybe add a price, look at famous artists etc. Have fun. Beau
You and Beau doing a job share now? I have to let the other moderators have a play every now and then Maz, just so that they feel as important as me.

HappyMaz
Do Ikea still do their rainbow bed canopy? We haven't had ours out for a long time - but the children love it when it goes on the climbing frame!
Guest
When we did our topic of 'colour and light' we had a painters and decorators role play area. Lots of different colour swatches, different coloured paints, tints, shades etc. Children loved it! Tinky
