Play Therapy

With the end of my NVQ in sight (YIPEE!) I've been doing some research on play therapists. I came across play therapists when having a careers interview, but the woman was insistant I should become a nurse and wouldn't give me any information on anything else :( I've always though it would be a great job, with great satisfaction but never thought about it seriously.

So I've been doing some research and I've decided that that's what I'm going to work towards. But I was wondering if anybody on here is a play therapist? Or knows a play therapist?

Mrs Weasley xD

PS. I couldn't figure out where this should be posted.. So I thought if I put it here, Beau can move it for me :o

I know of Hospital play specialists. I wanted to be one, but the only course I could find was at Warwick Uni, about 20 miles away and I had no way to get there. When my son was in hospital a couple of years ago the photos of ward staff included one of the nursery nurse, so maybe you dont need specialist status?

Sorry thats all I know

I could keep moving it around and not leave a link, like a game of hide and seek. :o:(

You got home then Beau!

You could do this - would be a bit like the idiot's quiz where you had to click on buttons only to find they've moved! xD

My mum is currently training to become one. Don't know much except she trains at weekends every few months and loving it. She is currently doing placements in a school. Oh and it is quite expensive. It sounds facinating tho'. Last time she spent two days looking at using the sand tray and paint. Will e-mail ask her to try and find out more.

This is who she is doing it with I think

A friend of mine wants to be play therapist, she has done the foundation degree and is topping up, she also has done an art therapy course, she has been told she needs to get psychology in her pocket too. It has been a long struggle for her, but I also now of another student who has managed to get a job that was advertised for a hospital nursery nurse and her work seems so interesting and much like play therapy.

Reckon if you wrote to the hospitals in your area and stated your case....you never know? :o

You're too quick for me, Rea!

Yes, you're right - something odd did happen. I answered Beau's post and clicked on 'reply' but it didn't appear to work. So when I ended up with two identical posts I decided to change the last one (I'd hoped before anybody had noticed!). But you did... xD

Sorry! :o

Rea - Thanks for that website too; that looks fab. Now you've thrown all my plans out the window I think.. haha.

Shirel - Good plan! Maybe they'll let me come see what they do?

xD What can I say? She learned at the feet of the master! :o

TUT!

Anyway Mrsweasley, what plans did you have tehn? Are you looking to do something with yourL3 that doesnt mean being a NN? There are loads of different things out there. Another one I would have like was working in a prison with the inmates children. But there are no womens prisons near me. Or working along side a social worker or health visitor.

Well to do start training to be a Play Therapist you have to have a degree in a relative subject, because it's a post-graduatecourse. So I was gonna do my foundation degree and then top up and then do the play therapy training when i'm 25ish cause you can't start until you're 25.

But I quite like the look of the hopistal play worker. xD

So I dunno now! :o

hello mrs weasley

I worked as a nursery nurse in a childrens hospital for many years, In the last few years i was there the hospital started to employ play specialists instead of nursery nurses. I left in 2002 but still in contact with one play specialist i will speak to her (could be a week or so)and see if she can give me any info for you.
