Guest
I am a reception class teacher with a BA who is looking for a course in Early Years education. Does anyone have any ideas about suitable post graduate couses in Early Years that would further my career and help me to specialise in this area? Any suggestions. Guest Wolfie
How about Early Years Professional Status - it's not a qualification, more a recognition of the high quality standards that you achieve and maintain both within your own early years practice and when leading and managing other people in their practice. You can find more details here: http://www.cwdcouncil.org.uk/eyps

Guest heleng
Can teachers who are teaching in school do EYPS Wolfie? The website isn't very clear! Maz No, if you are a teacher in a maintained school then you cannot do EYPS. It is for PVI's only. I looked into this when I moved into FS about 18 months ago and I went to a course about the intro of the EYFS and it was mentioned then. I went to get more info and after telling them I was a Reception teacher in a school they wouldn't even send me the info pack as I wouldn't be able to apply. I couldn't even do it and fund it myself as that wasn't an option.
Guest Wolfie
Ooops, sorry, yes you're right Maz - for some inexplicable reason staff in maintained schools aren't eligible to apply. I really don't understand the reasoning there, it just creates another division between PVI and maintained settings. Perhaps someone on here knows the answer...?? Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your first post. I'm sure EYPS will be your best bet, or you could contact the Open University for their thoughts
Cait
Ah, so it looks like EYPS is out, contact the OU or your local Uni for their advice. It's certainly very worthwhile for your own professional development, as you say
Marion
I'm not sure how you can be a reception teacher with just a BA do you have QTS? If so you won't need any other qualification.
Guest
Are you working within the private sector? I know our LEA does some excellent short courses for Foundation stage teachers - many of which are focused on specific areas of play/learning. Not sure what is available if you are in a private school though. I would also suggest the OU but would have thought you'd have covered a lot of what they have to offer while you were doing your BA.
